Put some Spring in your step

If you’re hoping to expand your notion of seasonal eating, this is the perfect time to start! Spring is the season for young and tender treats right from the garden. Snack on spring foods such as raw peas and radishes, add fresh spring fruits such as berries to cereal, and get ready for crisp salads every day.

Spring is also the favourite season of food foragers. You should be able to find great value for money at local farmers markets this time of year, which means it’s a good time to stock up on items that preserve well and get them into jars before the weather gets warmer.

Here is a list of wonderful food I will be looking out for at the local farmers market and we will be using a lot of at Waurn Ponds Estate over the next few months:

  • Grapefruit
  • Lemons
  • Strawberries
  • Asparagus
  • Artichokes
  • Beans
  • Broad beans
  • Beetroot
  • Fennel
  • Peas
  • Spinach
  • Leeks
  • Squash

Remember… if it is in season it will taste at its best and because it is in abundance it will be cheaper

Happy weeding to all you keen gardeners!
